大分弁で「ぐち」とか呼ばれます。ニベと混同されることも結構あるようです。標準和名がイシモチだったりしますけど、これは三半規管の一部である耳石がでかいことからきている様です。ニベ科の魚との区別はエラブタの黒い斑点です。大体はかまぼこの材料ですが、知らない間に喰ってかも知れないけど味の評価は良く分かりません。つり上げるとグーグーと腹の筋肉を振るわせて良く鳴くらしい。（'96年初夏 日出）
Common name in Oita is "guchi". This fish have a big otolith in the head and sing on angling. So, it is called "Ishimochi" (stone holder). There are black spots on the head. (Photoed at Hiji-machi, early summer)

大分弁で「かまがり」とか「くろむつ」とか呼ばれるらしいが、ニベ科は結構紛らわしいので、いまいち正確な情報か不安です。旨いかって？はっきり言います。知りません！グチの類は良く鳴くらしいけど、私はこのときその音に気づかなかった。クログチは雄だけが鳴くと言うから、つり上げたのは雌だったのかも知れない。（撮影 97年7月16日豊後水道）
Common names in Oita-ken are "Kamagari" and "Kuromutsu". I have not eaten this fish . So, I can't estimate taste of it. Male sings in angling. (Photoed at Bungo-suido, July 16 '97)
