1: A large crowd welcomed the opening of Mameno Chikaraya and the antenna shop of Imoridani
The ceremony for the first shipment was attended on 23rd by such guests as Town Mayor Mr. Takada , and town and prefectural officials concerned. A lot of farmers, aged people and children saw us off.
The store overflowed with people far before it was opened. A few of them, we learned later, ran so short of patience that they left without entering it.
Every tofu was sold out around 4 in the afternoon, and the vegetables and other articles from Imoridani were also all gone out. The proceeds ran over 110,000 yen. We hope this much popularity will continue.
2: The store introduced in the July 23rd evening edition of Oita Godou Shinbun with the caption of “Tofu with flavour enjoyed in the old days.”
Here’s a gist.
A tofu specialty store has been opened today. Tofu there is made of soybean milled with a stone and they use the soybean produced in Matumoto, Ajimu Town.
The store will help serve dual purposes; offering safe and tasty tofu to consumers and encouraging the farmers who have switched over from growing rice to soybean. Mr. Kenichi Shoji, owner of the store, had long wanted to find a way to let a tofu seller and soybean growers thrive together. He says the answer is to open a tofu store of this kind.
In Matumoto area 50 houses grow soybean and harvested 23 tons last year. The soybean there is very sweet and full of flavour.
The manager of the store is Mr. Shigeru Nakatsuru, who is from Oita City and a new farmer settled in the area. He brings fresh vegetables of the area to the store every morning. He hopes for communication and interchange to begin between consumers and farmers.
