The Fifth day in the North America continent.
Reported By Tooru Ono
As I got late in the morning, I have to rush today. At JETRO in New York. Mr. Maekawa, in charge of information & communication section, is dispatched from MITI. He knows, of course, very well Mr. Fujino, Mr. Aizu of Hyper Network Institute.
It seems somewhat hard for him to commute and office environment when compared with those in Japan. But actually, he works in the spacious office as you see here. His home is also located in a very nice area where even deer often appear.
JETRO is in the 44th floor of McGraw-Hill building, I remember.
I can see a lot of places in New York.
The building is full of jewelry shops run by Jew. A lot of Jewish jewelers crowd in the shop wearing black cloths and black Jew bowler hats.
Statue of Liberty, President, Monroe are all in doll for souvenir. A typical souvenir shop in New York.
I got a pizza for branch, pretty big! I had a heartburn all day long.
Ms. Yoshiko Mukai a web designer of Media Japan. She is from Osaka, Japan (her mother is from Usuki, Oita Japan), she said. Media Japan is in "Silicon Alley", intentionally named after "Silicon Valley." "Silicon Alley" was established as a part of New York city's "re-activation program of the Wall Street" in which empty building is increasing in number. A shopping center complex building was prepared to lure new media entrepreneurs by Internet infrastructure. The company makes home pages in Japanese for the Japanese.
Media Japan's URL is www.mediajapan.com. Ms. Yoshiko Mukai is in charge of taking pictures. She takes a couple of pictures every day on the streets and put them on the web pages. The company itself was founded just in June this year. The sever computer of the company is run on Windows.
To my regret, I couldn't see the president who has been to Japan until next week.
The picture seems to be the opening ceremony of the building. The president is at the top-left. The mayor of New York city is at the bottom right.
The entrance of Media Japan. You can't enter the room easily from the corridor, the office is locked from inside. She said the office was once robbed. The building itself is protected at the entrance by guardsmen. One of them asked me for reservation and took me to the office, watching me not go to other places. Is this a special kindness for me?
At the entrance of the building. Many URLs on the glass. httpt://www.55broadst.com/

The whole building is still under construction. Many empty spaces. At the first floor was an empty office probably would be used for temporal office of the project. I found a URL as well, introducing whole project. It reads httpt://www.virtcitnow.com/ , I remember(?) Or is it a mere tenant of the building? I'll try to access upon my return to Oita.
A snapshot of the Wall Street.
SOHO district. 20minutes walk from the Wall Street. I walked all through the way for health. The building is the first hotel built in the SOHO district. The opening ceremony was held yesterday. Its name is GRAND Hotel. Interior seemed like to be SOHO style, I missed to see it.
SOHO.
A terrace type shop, an open-cafeteria type restaurant. Large glass windows.
A big doll on the top of the building! The building looks like a gallery anyway... I didn't check it.
A strange car, full of clocks.
It asks "what time it is now?" mannequin heads are in row.... Pedestrians stare it.....
A super market Yuppies love. To lure them who make some money and enjoy healthy life, the interior of the shop is designed clean, light. Smart arrangement of high quality cooking material. Those are the sales points of the shop.
Many kinds of peppers, indeed.

A gym of exercise on the street. Many people swarmed around. All of them walk in the same direction...
Broadway. Ms. Eguchi took me to a top popular show called "BLUEMAN." The entrance of it. Anyway, from the beginning to the end, all spectators are laughing, laughing and shouting. Spectator join type show. Three entertainer paint their head up from the neck in blue color.
Not a bit of word. They perform only by the eyes. Like mannequin or space-man, anyway great. They are also excellent drummers which makes me forget myself. I was lost myself in enjoying before I knew. A girl of 7-8 years old girl, sitting on the seat, was frolicking. Her laughing again make others laugh. I learned a funny usage of toilet paper rolls. Ms. Eguchi wonders saying "What? The number of Japanese is increasing than before, why?" Young Japanese girls sit around me on the right, in the front in couple respectively. Ms. Eguchi sits on my left. I am completely surrounded by females. I wonder what the BLUEMAN looks me?
Only one shot of the BLUEMAN I took after the show. Taking pictures is forbidden during the show. We went to dinner. The lobster restaurant I had once visited and never forgot.
Ms. Eguchi was eager to enjoy food saying "Oh, Mr. Ono, it is really delicious. I understand you remember the taste."

Many cartoons of celebrities on the wall. The name of the shop was "PALM?"
I went back to the hotel on foot from the restaurant. 20 minutes, I guess. On the way, I passed a crossing of 57th and 5th avenue....this means Miss. Misako, "Tiffany." The picture is taken in the Trump Tower next to Tiffany. As you know, I can't use digital camera where it is too dark.
Only in the tower was illuminated brilliantly. It was almost midnight. Yes, Miss. Tomonari, I found Choch near here. Anyway, famous shops filled the street.
A Disney store.
A shop for Miss. Sawako. Now I have just a day left. Tomorrow I will meet a man from the Nikkei press. I'd like to meet people of Media Japan once more.... But it is almost impossible to do everything I want in net two days....
