A future in the computer network
A certain thing dropped from the sky.
I have known the computer since I was young.
When I was in the sixth grade, I met the computer in the SF. Anyway
they can not go to space travel by rocket without computer. So I accepted
it very naturally.
After that as I grew like a junior high school student and high school
student , I kept the computer away. But one day, A certain thing
dropped from the sky suddenly.
I was in the room in front of the main entrance of the Collage of
Engineering of Kyushu University in the dusky evening. I was
surprised with terrible noise when something crushed with a thud,
as if to be paralyzed with the noise.
What happened! I opened the window in a hurry, and found a big
pillar over the school building. Does anybody fail any test? I rushed
to the spot as the others does while I thought so. It was that an
American jet plane crushed!
It is a long time since I saw the computer last.
Only I could look up the jet plane which stuck in the building and
burned while I was surprised with that. That was a four story building
and now being built. When I wondered what building is that, someone
said " Oh, the large-sized computer center looks like hopelessness
though they would manage to establish it." next to me.
"Well, there is a computer center near me." I thought so, at that time,
and it is a long time since I saw the computer last.
The accident started student movement, the University canceled
the lecture for a half year. As I would rather not study, I became
completely free though I tend to be free from the first. So I spent
extravagant days, such as midnight TV program, and reading SF in
the jazz coffee shop. To tell the truth, the computer came to me one
after another at that time.
The computer existed as a friend of people.
I saw a live telecast of the moon landing which was the first of man.
It was great! The SF world came true, and the Americans did that.
The announcer said that the computer supported this great work,
again and again. Well, the computer makes our future!
While I was being excited with that, a certain SF gave me a finishing.
Though man barely reached moon, in the SF, the people who lives
in the moon colony and groans under the tyranny of the earth
government declare independence on July 4 in 2076. There was an
accident which is like the Boston Tea Party, after that the
revolutionary war broke out.
And the computer network entered as an important role like a hero
or heroine there. The computer offered the voice mail or electric
meeting, and led them to independence ,but it is not the manservant,
nor the god who controls the people. It entered as a friend of people
who can express own personality. Wonderful!!
I would like to live in the world like this, and there is a future in
the computer network! I would think so.
I got a invitation card from America.
More than twenty years has passed since I read the book. Mr. Wakata
graduate of Kyushu University went to space. Do I have the dream
that I would like to make a computer network like that one which I
used to read in the book, still now?
By the way, I was impressed by the imagination or personality
which can show the vision of the Americans. We can dream the future,
such as the moon world or the computer future society
I got a invitation card from America. They said "Let's exchange views
on the administration of the local network in Silicon Valley", so I went
to America this September. Everyone dreams the future society
everywhere.
